Greetings to all members of Torquay Golf Club
From 2025/26 it will be my privilege and honour to represent Torquay Golf Club as your captain, Richard Saunders. I am very much looking forward to the year ahead to promote this ever-improving golf club.
I have been a member of the club since 1986 when I was first introduced by my Uncle’s Terry Steer and Mike Angelos, both previous captains. I very quickly realised what a fantastic sport golf is and played at every opportunity I could and still do. During my captaincy year I will be supported by our vice captain, Keith Thompson who I look forward to sharing some time with. We are eager to ensure you enjoy your time at Torquay Golf Club and are able to receive great value from your membership.
We organise some wonderful social events and our restaurant is exemplary. We always welcome new faces and encourage new members to join our club, from beginners to experienced players. I have learned a great deal from committee members and past captains and would like to personally thank Chris Lang for doing a great job as captain and for the help he has given me.
Look forward to seeing you all.
Thank you
Richard Saunders - Club Captain
Hello and welcome. I started my golf 33 years ago and have only ever been a member at Torquay. Original I joined while married to Steve Thorne who is also a long standing member of Torquay golf club. Our children Harrison and Cameron also have been keen members during their childhood, both being junior captains. All 3 of the above great golfers. (Harrison is due to return after living in London for several years, ,which is really exciting for me). I have been on the junior committee and a short stint on the ladies committee. I’ve always played in the club teams and joined in all the club comps and social events. I’m not a bad golfer but a better socialiser. Iain Rowlands has been my partner for over 20 years, they say opposites attract, this is the case with us, as I have the slowest swing in the world and Iain has the fastest.
I’ve had many years of fun at the club, the ladies section are a great bunch of girls. I am very proud to be a member at Torquay, and felt it was time to give something back.
Golf is a difficult game when you start, and still can be, even for the best. So please don’t be afraid to put your name up with any of us for a game, ask any questions and join us at the tables for a drink. You will wish you joined us years ago!!!
